Tomás Magalhães is a for-profit and non-profit entrepreneur.
He has a degree in Physics from FCUP and a double Masters in Nanotechnology from KU Leuven and TU Delft where his research resulted in a publication in the prestigious Nature Nanotechnology.
In 2011, changing course, he registered a patent and founded Cronobits, a company that develops applications for mobile operators. In 2014 he set up Invicta Drones, a pioneer drone footage company.
In 2016 his passion for philosophy and his interest in volunteering led him to get involved in the Effective Altruism movement, launching the movement in Portugal through a representation of Giving What We Can.
In 2017 he founded Kolkata Relief, a non-profit project that supports homeless people and slum dwellers in Kolkata.
Between 2018 and 2023, he was part of the Grupo de Reflexão sobre o Futuro de Portugal (GRFP), a diverse group of ‘changemakers’ without political ties, that met periodically with the President of the Republic.
In 2020 he founded Despolariza, a community, podcast, and Youtube channel trying to fight polarization through celebrating nuance and learning how to disagree with more science, love and comedy.
