Full Professor of the Department of Computer Science of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (FCUP).
Portuguese representative in the Committee on Digital Economy Policy, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
Director of the Cybersecurity and Privacy Competence Centre of the University of Porto.
Member of the General Council of the University of Porto and Vice-President of the Council of Representatives of FCUP. 
Member of the Academy of Sciences of Lisbon.
Develops research activity in computer security, privacy and data protection. 
Founding partner of three companies HealthySystems (www.hltsys.pt), Adyta (www.adyta.pt) and TekPrivacy (www.tekprivacy.pt) spin-offs of the University of Porto.

He is responsible for disciplines and courses in ethics, cybersecurity and data protection. His visibility leads him to be periodically invited to national and international television programs and lectures.
He regularly collaborates with the National Security Office, the National Data Protection Commission and the General Attorney’s Office in the area of cybercrime.
